To a childhood friend,

It was clearly written in the stars that I was supposed to start blogging this week. Yesterday, I came across yesterday’s Zero to Hero challenge. Today one of my favourite bloggers, Gala Darling, posted this great post for if you have “Blogger’s Block”, which has inspired me to write this letter.

Dear J,

One of my strongest memories of the two of us is when we got married. It was a simple ceremony, with my mum officiating, but it was wonderful – I think you wore a Lion King t-shirt which made me want to marry you even more. There was definitely a part of me that hoped you’d be my first real boyfriend one day! Unfortunately you were destined to only be my first husband, not my first boyfriend. But I think that day was one of the happiest of my young life.

You were one of my first friends and my first boy- best-friend. You were super weird, and a typically gross boy but you were so kind to me, and I have so many great memories of the two of us. One of my very favourites has to be where we’d go under your house to the basement/outhouse sort of place and “study” Vikings, do you remember? Pretending to uncover their tools, discovering their toilet holes in the ground, what a couple of fun kids we were!

I often think about another life; one where we did stay best friends, where we’re still friends now. I hear about your life through Facebook and my mum’s occasional updates and wonder about what might have been.  I wonder how my life would be different if we still spent as much time together as when we were younger. I also wonder if you ever think about me, if you ever get these same thoughts. I reckon we’d still be being weird and uncool together, in our own wonderful way.

You’re one of those people who I’d instantly be friends with again. We might not have spoken in years but I’d be there for you in a heartbeat.
